I was shocked to read this news about 6000 Covid-19 cases in India with deaths reported. The question now is should we get back to the pandemic protocol - wearing masks and such? I have been merrily letting people into the house and now I wonder if I should keep a watch on this This link gives more details

Covid, like any other virous won't magically go away. You have nothing to fear, don't pay attation to the numbers, they're designed to scare.

You know Kayla I think with India having a population of 3 times the USA If they wanted to scare Indian people they would have said 600k and not 6k I would believe that the numbers are real. If in 2 weeks its say.12k then it would be cause for much concern. Also we don't know if the vaccine is working on the new strains. And the.take up of vaccine is low globally now. I was reading about this and there are some valid concerns Covid 2 might happen one day.

I think if that is the situation in India that it is worrying But given the vastness of the population the government will not want to blow it out of proportion. I think mask wearing would be a good idea Perhaps some social distancing We never hear about COVID here very much now but I would think if there is any COVID at all and it's killing people there must be a tipping point where some.protocol.is applied again to stop the spread. Are Indians still getting the vaccine?

I wonder if it is spreading quicker in particular areas. And if the strain will be kept at bay by the vaccine Judy.

I think that we all have the knowledge and experience to protect ourselves as best that we see fit. I wear a mask when I feel the need to do so, and I do not touch public surfaces without wearing disposable gloves-depending on the location and my concerns at that time. It is all up to us. I have an even bigger fear of measles, I am almost certain that I had it as a child, but a very mild case, and although I was vaccinated, I do not know if it would protect me today.

This used to be my way too in the good old days. I remember when my extended family visited me from all over the globe I did not let them hug me but gave them a general hug from a distance but when I had an event a few days ago when around 20 were there they all hugged me tight as I was not aware then what I now know. No more hugs and yes I will wear a mask too.

@Juliaacv You are indeed wise I have seen huge crowds on TV but I do not see anyone of them wearing masks whether Indian or those from the US and other countries.

@allknowing No, hugging isn't for anyone except my immediate family. I carry masks in my purse just the same way that I carry money in my purse, and without exception, will always do that. And I maintain my booster shots every 6 months for my own protection as well as that of others, I do not want to catch it and then spread it, more people should be so considerate.

This is what I have read in a Medical Report in Indiatimes: "The natural immunity developed in India is strong enough. The current virus is not causing severe disease at all. People should not worry,"

@allknowing - People also used to die for the common flu. Those who have other health problems are surely those who are dying.

Pretty and I have never stopped wearing masks in public. We've never had Covid, either. It still makes the rounds in the US. You can still ask for a mask in doctors' offices and hospitals when you go in. Once in a while, a nurse will hand a person who is coughing/sneezing or sniffling a mask and ask them to wear it. Some people will put them on but others will just hold it until they leave and drop it in the trash.
