How embarrassing is this?

Remind me please, why does money have to be squandered celebrating the King’s birthday? Oh yes, I remember now, it’s because we haven’t bothered putting that particular family in its rightful place. We just let them go on thinking they’re more special than all the other families in the kingdom. It really is high time the British public put this anachronism to bed and elected a head of state instead of letting one family hog the limelight. And anyway, what is “Trooping the Colour” a euphemism for?

The one I like a lot is Princess Catherine (Kate). She is gorgeous. I also have been so sad she went through Cancer treatments. I'm glad it looks like she is in remission.

@thehorse I do believe so. Mine’s on January 5 but I don’t want anything quite as showy.

@xFiacre I'd take hug from my friends, some music, and a shot of Glenlivet.

Do most people in your part of the world feel like you? Or, do they feel like it’s inherently part of their culture, and want to keep this pomp and circumstance…

A reasonable question, I think.

Well, it seems that wasting money for his own birthday is becoming common even for someone who is NOT a king, but for sure he would love to become an Emperor.

@paigea Canada and Australia have very similar links to the 'Auld Country'.

Firstly #NotMyKing The public in the UK with the Rule Britannia mentality have kept them where they are for generations.and will continue to do so because the well oiled publicity machine the money grabbing Royals have does it's job really well. We in Scotland made the daftest choice a nation could make when we refused the chance of self determination so we have helped keep the Royal delusion alive. Had we broken up the UK things might indeed be different as we might have started a trend Another thing that gets on my goat are my fellow Glasgow.Rangers.supporters who no doubt have been wailing out God Save The King all day. The Union Jacks have no place at Ibrox or in Scotland. Trooping the Colour, wait, something to do with Markle.and.Archie???

My question is why are they celebrating his birthday in June when he was born in November?? Or is that a perk of being king, you can celebrate your birthday whenever you want?

Trump had his $45 million parade today. I doubt that much was spent by royalty.
