I am not sure how many would venture into visiting the Niagara Falls in winter. The fact that there are photos floating on the Net shows there must have been several soaking in the scenic beauty of the Niagara Falls in winter I have been there thrice, once from the Canadian side and twice from the Amierican side. The Canadian side was lit up as we visited the place in the night That was a scenic view too . Niagara Falls has lot to boarst about no matter which season You can see the image of the frozen Niagara Falls here

I had no idea that Niagara Falls froze over. I’d have thought the constant flow of that amount of water would prevent it. Amazing!

That’s amazing—you brought back a great memory for me! I actually saw the partially frozen Niagara Falls during my first trip to the U.S. back in 2018. We visited in early spring, and the ice was just starting to break up. You could see these massive chunks falling into the water below—it was both powerful and beautiful at the same time. Even though it wasn’t the full-on winter freeze, the sight of the icy falls and the lingering snow around made it feel like we caught a rare in-between moment. It really is a place that has something to offer in every season, and seeing it that way added a whole new layer of awe.

@allknowing It's true. Watching something other than the typical water fall was interesting. Instead, you could hear the ice breaking and tumbling. The ice then floated back up in the semi-frozen river below.

Is that because of climate change, or does it usually happen that it freezes? Do Penguins live there? I hope they are okay.

It is more likely that the US side would free over as it is much smaller of a waterfall. We have been to The Falls during the winter. Surprisingly enough, there is no mist in the air, and the sound is more of a silent one, although not quite silent, but no roar from the falling water. This is a photo of our (Canadian) side during the winter.
