A guinea pig goes to school

United Kingdom

So, I guess I am over hearing some snippets of news today. Just ear wigged a story about a school that has adopted two guinea pigs ....called ' Hunchie ' and ' Crunchie '. They spend their days touring the school spending a day in each of the classrooms. The Headteacher says they are a calming influence on the children and they are having fun learning how to look after the guinea pigs. So, my question is ....should schools keep animals as pets .... what do you think .....

I don't see a problem with pets in school as long as the kids aren't distracted from their lessons... Helping care for the pets can be good for the kids, in my opinion.

@Traceyjayne I'm sure that does happen if a teacher doesn't really want pets in her classroom.

Yes, I do agree. We had stick insects , although I could never see them so the teachers could just have been teasing us and given us a tank of twigs to look after !

I think it can add to train the students on how to behave properly and care.

I´m of the old school. I think that children should not have so many distractions unless it is during the recess.

I think you have a point. I think they are in cages until break time ....the guinea pigs, not the children !

I can't imagine that the guinea pigs have very big enclosures which is a bit of a worry. It's good for children to learn how to look after pets. They can learn a lot from animals.

I like the idea of schools having pets in a classroom if the students can learn to stay focused on their lessons.
