A friend of mine applied for a number of positions at major law firms. He had the on paper qualifications and passed the interviews, but never got any of the positions.
If you check his Facebook Page he is wild dancing with a woman who looks like she has a cash register on her bed.
If I know your name, I can do a search and find out a lot about you... do a search of your name and see what turns up.
Having been involved in the Internet in the earliest days, I usually use a Nick and a minor email account and publish no photos of myself. I share nothing personal save maybe my opinion on television shows, fashion, sports, and local politics.
This is because I know that being on the Internet is walking naked down main street. Most people don't.
That is why my friends on Facebook are people I have coffee with, gone to their weddings.
Most people do not realise how they expose themselves. Just as my friend thought he looked cool and sexy instead of showing bad judgement, many people destroy themselves by what they post on social media.
I am not surprised that it is admitted that the US looks over social media before it grants that VISA.

Isn't this the second time you've posted this discussion? Or one very close to it, I believe...

@jaylar It's okay. You want to get your point across... No harm in that.

People don't realize that privacy, especially on the internet, is an illusion created to make you think you're safe. I don't post what I don't want people to know, period.

@kaylachan I warn people who don't listen. That is my super power. If I say don't it becomes done

@jaylar Very few people listen to me. Just got into it with another member of Flip, arguing about engagement, and how it actually works.

Many people don’t realize just how visible and permanent their online presence is and how much it can affect real-world opportunities, like jobs or visa
