They Won't Let Me Order Off The Kids' Menu Anymore

I don't get it. Why does the restaurant care if I eat a kid's item or an adult entree as long as I'm spending money? I can't eat big portions. I prefer kids' food and kids' sizes. I've been order the kids steak at a local restaurant for a couple of years now and today they informed me they won't allow adults to order off the kids menu anymore. I'm not going to waste food and adult entrees are way too big. I don't know what I'm going to do. Sometimes I've just ordered an appetizer or a side item. And of course there's always the option of eating at home instead. Denny's used to have a Senior's Menu with smaller portion sizes and prices. We don't have any Denny's here anymore.

If restaurants won't let adults take from a kids menue they should have items with half portions,

There’s a Denny’s not too far from my house, but then I do live on the other side of town from you. I would politely request a small or “child-sized” portion when ordering. When I had lunch with Marie Coyle in Illinois last year, I asked the server if they had a child-sized hamburger because I couldn’t eat a half-pound hamburger. They were all too happy to oblige. If they won’t, ask the manager about it, and explain that you have digestion or dietary issues that won’t allow you to eat big portions anymore.

I forgot about that...the burgers at Billy's are simply massive, I don't know anyone who can eat a whole one! Way more than any one person needs!

@looeyville Portion sizes are unhealthily big in most restaurants I find. Such a waste when I can’t finish.

You could take the leftovers home for another meal; but it's too bad that they won't let you order off the children's menu anymore. Sorry about that.

Because you're not a kid, 'nuff said, and restaurants lose money on kid's menu items typically, but make it up when the adults who bring their kids with them to eat order adult portioned meals. I know you won't like my take...but that's what my take is. lol

That seems to be extreme for a regular customer. I wonder if it would help if you called and talked to the Manager or District Manager?

When I was ten my parents had to quit allowing me to order off the kids menu because everyone thought we were lying about my age. I’ve honestly never been to a restaurant that allowed adults to order off the kid’s menu. Usually my dad splits a plate with his wife if they don’t want much, but that does not help when you want one thing and your husband wants another. Since you’re a regular customer, I’d let you do it in case they lose your business over it. I am surprised they didn’t. Repeat customers are a big deal.

You should be allowed to order what you want providing it is there.

Many restaurants have stopped allowing adults to order from the children's menu. Some people order them because it's a reduced price, of course. My cousin who recently passed away always ordered from the child's menu--she was extremely tiny, and couldn't even finish a child's portion. But there were some places that she enjoyed eating out and they wouldn't let her order from it. She would order it to go for both herself and then whatever her husband wanted, and he would go pick it up. I suppose that's a solution in a way...and as you said, eating at home. I have to agree with you that adult entrees are way, way too big. They could serve half the food and charge half the price, but that's not ever going to happen, unfortunately.

I would just go and find somewhere else to eat. I wouldn't even give it another thought. They surely do not want to have you spend money there
