Oh, Hell No...

There are things that look or seem easy in concept. All sorts of things get sold that are supposed to make something easy harder. No, that was not a typo. I said that on purpose. Of course, that's not how things are advertised, of course. And unfortunately, they sell tons of these kinds of things because most people who see the ads simply don't really think things through. Like say, making a hard boiled egg. You put some eggs in a saucepan and add water, put it on the burner, bring it to a boil and cook the eggs for around 12 minutes or so, maybe a little longer, let them cool a bit, peel them and eat them. Unless you want to do it the "easy" way with Eggies. Using this "fast and easy" method, you simply use a paper towel to oil the top and bottom part of the capsule, then put the first three parts all together, crack your egg, put on the tops (by the way, nothing screws on easy), put them into the water to boil and then unscrew the middle piece, take the top off, and then squeeze the hard boiled egg out. Okay. There's no shell. So you can skip the peeling part. Now, after you enjoy your eggs (and you can only make 6 of them), you just take all 18 parts and wash them. The entire process from start to finish from oiling, assembling, boiling and cleanup? A mere 40 minutes when all I had to do was do it the regular way and be done in 15. Sidenote: I bought these for my mom at Saver's for $4 and thought they'd be an easy way to make hard boiled eggs for her she wouldn't have to peel because she was having trouble peeling them. I will just use the old-fashioned method and peel them for her and put them in a ready to eat dish.

I think people just need lives if I'm being perfectly honst. I think people invent things to try to solve a problem that doesn't need solving, only to unintentionally create another problem.

@porwest Often times it does fail spectualrally, but doesn't stop people from trying.

@kaylachan Neither does it keep people from blowing their money on these things just in case they might actually work. lol

Precisely. Everyone wants to reinvent the wheel.

That process that was to be easier...took more steps and time. I side with you on doing it the old fashion way!

It very much reminds of the age old adage: Keep it simple, stupid.

Exactly. I bought an omelette maker for the microwave and it's a scutter too. And it doesn't even do good omelette

In Italy we say "il semplice complicato dall'inutile", more or less "the simple complicated by the useless".

@LadyDuck I very rarely bite. Even something like this I'd never have bought for myself. But what a waste. lol

I think I bought something similar one time. A total waste of time and effort.

@porwest And people often do buy them. A lot of kitchen gadgets are unnecessary.

I really think sometimes someone sits down and asks the question, "How can I turn a very simple task into a nightmare chore...and sell it?" lol

@1creekgirl I'd say about 90% of them are unnecessary.

@LindaOHio Both are delicious. Although deviled eggs win the big prize for me. They can be dangerously good.

I mean, how easy, at the end of the day, is it to hard boil an egg anyway, right? I never once thought it was hard.

This is such a perfect example of how convenient products can end up being way more work than doing things the simple, old-fashioned way.

I have a small round electric egg cooker that cooks six eggs at once hard or soft boiled and will even poach them,

@RasmaSandra I guess that could be helpful. I tend to not put things on the stove and walk away. But I guess if I wanted to...that would be a good idea.

My sister has one of those. She says it works pretty good. I still can't see how it makes it easier. Maybe less messy?

I was going to say, why did you buy them then? LOL. If she likes hardboiled eggs, and has trouble peeling them. You can get 12 of them hardboiled and peeled at the grocery store for like $6.
