The Driveway Didn't Turn Out Well

Last year a company washed and sealed our aggregate driveway, patio, and walkway/porch. Everything turned out okay except for the driveway. After a couple of months there were patchy spots and discoloration. The HOA pays for the driveway sealing, so we asked the HOA to look into it. There were 3 driveways in the complex that had issues. The company came out yesterday using what looked like a bug sprayer and sprayed something called Xylene on not only the driveway, which was the problem, but also the sidewalk and front porch, which didn't have any problems. Now the sidewalk and front porch look like crap with patchy discoloration spots and the driveway didn't improve either. The company called me last night to ask how it looked and I sent him photos and told him it wasn't good. He went into a lengthy explanation of how you can't reseal something that's already sealed until the old seal wears off in 4 more years, how water must have gotten into the concrete, etc. He said he "might" take another look at it "at some point" and apply another coat of Xylene, which is supposed to take our moisture in the aggregate and give shine. I have no idea what to do from here. Generic photo of what aggregate is attached.

I think that the Xylene was used in a futile attempt to remove the stains, The surface would need to be more or less sanded and washed , pressure washed, dried and then resealed, quite a big job Can't see where Xylene would come into the equation. It's a cleaning agent but it won't move stuff from a driveway. What colour were the spots on the driveway

It seems these days you don't get what you pay for...everything is made NOT to last and throw away!

Sounds like they made it worse and not better. Hope they can fix it and you aren't stuck with such a bad job.

Doing any kind of concrete work in extreme heat is not recommended, I am surprised they didn’t wait until the weather moderates. The entire thing will no doubt have to be done all over again to give bit the desired finish. This happened to us once when the contractor we were using insisted on doing concrete work on our driveway in a big heat wave. Don’t let it go, contact the head of your HOA, etc. You pay for this service with your HOA fees. They need to do better.
