Not that it's necessarily anything new, many washers and dryers are already made in the United States, mainly in Louisville, Kentucky. But GE has recently decided to move it's China production to Louisville under a $490 million investment that will create 800 new jobs for Americans.
Companies do this, of course, when it makes economic and fiscal sense for them to do this.
What was the catalyst? Well, the first part of their statement was they want to achieve a "zero-distance" business strategy to keep production as close to customers as possible. But they ended their statement by saying, "it aligns with the current economic and policy environment."
That last statement means two things. They view the U.S. economy as strong and the cost of American labor as viable, all other things considered, and certain policies by the Trump administration are incentivizing manufacturers to rethink where they make things.
GE will not be the only American company doing this.

That's what I said needed to happen.
It's how you will grow your infrastructure , create jobs, increase tax revenues and improve communties whilst reducing imports

@Ineeddentures It's not that. lol. It's that if, in a time of war, your country doesn't make anything, you can't convert factories to make weapons and equipment you need to fight it.

@BarBaraPrz He's getting things done and the world is paying attention. What makes him crazy stupid? The fact he's actually doing the work we elected him to do?

Glad they decided to move their production to the US. More US companies should do the same.

@porwest I hope that once Trump’s term ends that the new guy or gal doesn’t reverse all the great things Trump is doing or has already done.

@lovebuglena I have a very strong suspicion that J.D. Vance will be our next president.

More are ever since Trump began reintroducing tariffs, and investments are now topping around $1 trillion by some major U.S. companies to manufacture here. This means more jobs, better jobs, and higher wages, which is the whole purpose for Trump's tariffs.
Its aim is to encourage Made in the U.S.A. and bring back manufacturing which makes us stronger as a nation both in terms of our economy, our worker's opportunities, AND national security.

It's good to make electronics in one's own country as the services and spare parts would be easily available.

@aninditasen Well, a country, in a time of war, needs to be able to convert factories to make things needed for war, and you can't do that if all the factories are overseas.
