Not a trend I approve of.

Yet another cafe has been ruined for me and I’ve run out of cafes to read and drink good coffee in. This one is just up the coast a few miles, but news has leaked out and now business people have started using it as an office for business meetings. In they come in their sharp suits - actually most of the suits are saggy and rumpled and way out of fashion by about 20 years. Along with their businessy feel they bring along iPads, laptops, phones - even pen and paper - and they commandeer tables, push tables together and spread their shop talk all over the cafe. And none of them ever talk about interesting business, it’s always so boring and no-one needs to hear it. To overly-amorous young things in a cafe I say “Get a room”. To loud business people in a cafe I say “Get an office”. No-one listens to me.

I hope that they spend a lot of money in the cafe so at least their presence makes sense from a business point of view. How long do they stay in the cafe for? I'm sure if it was not good for business the cafe owner would not put up with them occupying so many tables. I wonder how many others like you are pissed off with the situation - and will customers who have left because of this return when these jokers find another " office"

I agree! Could really hurt their business driving all the regulars away!

@kareng But the flip side is that these business types might be buying more than regulars ever did And they might not have lost any regulars at all. Can any cafe turn multiple customers away

@Ineeddentures Losing my custom will go unnoticed, but at least I brought dignity, class and an air of other worldliness to the establishment without which no enterprise can expect to be taken seriously.

If they are not spending, I'm sure the manager or owner will ask them to leave soon. It hurts their regular business. They could have the place privately perhaps for an hour after closing. I'm sure they could make some kind of mutual arrangements agreeable by both parties.

Perhaps you could yawn loudly in their vicinity.

How disappointing that they are ruining the atmosphere of the cafe.

What a bad day for you. Do they own the cafe place?

@nakitakona No. they just treat it as their personal office.
