I can't speak for all teachers but I can speak for teachers where I work. Yes we welcome all students. I work in a high school and had a 6 foot+ boy who would regularly show up in stripper heels and pumps. I was like "props to you b/c I'd break an ankle!"
I've had trans students over the years and have loved seeing them thrive as they lived their lives. I've also seen a couple whose families didn't approve. They'd have to change in the bathroom before school started because parents made them wear dresses. I don't even know how many homosexual students I've taught and again I don't care. Not my business. I'm there to help any student who needs it regardless of sexual preference or gender identity. That's what it means to be an educator right?
The whole sex/gender thing can get a little tricky when you teach a subject like I do. I always tell the students that they don't have to internalize or agree with what I say but they just have to know about it. I use that line all year when it comes to genetics, evolution, etc. I never have any kind of "indoctrination" agenda with my kids. Yes I just called them "my kids" because they are. I care and worry about them. They come to me for snacks. They visit me all day because for some reason they find me funny.
Stop demonizing teachers. No one is trying to turn children into trans students. We just support all students.

It’s funny. I remember eighth grade lit in junior high school when our teacher was trying to politely tap dance around the explanation of what a homosexual was.
There’s no indoctrination. We didn’t mention that word in schools for 300 years and somehow still ended up with gays.

The teachers I know care about kids. Period. Of course we do not have the challenges that a high school does. I do not know how I would feel if I did. If there is an opt out option I do not think an agenda is being pushed.

How do you feel about teachers that "teach" their students about homosexuals, trans, etc. people? I saw someone post a negative Discussion about teachers that do this in their classrooms.

I can't imagine a curriculum that would include that but I teach high school not elementary. I certainly acknowledge that there are homosexual and trans people over the course of the year. It comes with the whole teaching about "living things" subject. I don't do specific lessons about that though. I also respect my students who are gay, nonbinary, trans, etc as well as their parents and family who might be part of that group.
I truly don't care who my students love or what they identify as. As I always say--they can identify as a toaster for all I care. As long as they are learning and feel safe in my classroom then I'm okay with it.

@LindaOHio I think it is a good thing for students who are confused or who feel outside of the norm to hear that they are okay. I just can't imagine a specific lesson about it though let alone teachers trying to "turn" students trans/gay/whatever.

@NJChicaa You have the attitude that every teacher should have. The teachers in question were in elementary school. I thought children were too young to truly understand LBGTQ+ people and to respect other people's beliefs.

I don't think any one is demonising teachers at all
But they are having a go at the people who seem it ok to push the LGBTQ+ agenda on to young kids

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that parents don't have to subject their kids to LGBTQ+ story time and related books at schools.
Maryland.
If that isn't pushing the agenda ,what is?

@Ineeddentures No one is pushing that agenda. They can opt their kids out. Have you seen the books that were questioned?
In any case I don't teach a class with books for children to read. I just teach science.
