Errant hose.

Imagine my distress and consternation, friends, when three days ago I removed a pile of laundry from the dryer and found that only one of a pair of socks could be found.
It happens, but that’s of no comfort. I careful retraced all the steps leading to the inconvenient and mysterious absence and I can come up with neither the sock nor an explanation for its loss.
The normal protocol for the washing of clothes in our house (and perhaps also in yours) is that items requiring to be laundered are removed and placed in a basket in the bathroom. I remember putting both socks in that basket.
When the pile of unfresh clothing accumulates I take it to the washing machine and bung it all in there to be washed. I then remove the wet clothes and take them to the dryer which lives in the garage.
Drying accomplished, I take clothes out of the dryer and take them inside to fold and that’s when I could find only one sock.
Now I did all this myself - I am in charge of laundry and am most efficient at it if I may say so. Therefore I am confident that all the correct procedures were followed.
I checked the washer, dryer and the path from the house to the garage and no solo sock has been found. Everything has been turned upside down and inside out, every corner of house and garage has been scoured and yet no sock.
The search for the sock has been so thorough and incessant that my wife is accusing me of being obsessive. She has pointed out that I have plenty of other socks but that’s not the point - I need to solve the mystery. It’s what I lie thinking about in bed now. Its twin sits looking forlorn and even a bit accusatory on top of my tallboy.
Would this annoy you? Do you have my sock? Black with an orange heel. Do you even care?

You are more organised than me with regards to laundry procedure, and most likely just more organised.
I too am in charge of laundry duties in our household.
It really would annoy me.
I would want to find the sock and would search high and low for it.
My wife would tell me to use the remaining sock to polish my bike.
caring is good

Sometimes a sock will hide inside a shirt or pair of pants. That's usually where I find it. I definitely don't have your sock. Sorry.

That does happen on occasion and can be very annoying... What I started doing back when I started doing my own laundry (around 18 years of age) is to place the singleton in the bottom drawer of my dresser... Hopefully, the next time I do laundry, I will come up with another singleton that, by rarest coincidence, matches that singleton in the bottom drawer of my dresser so I make a new pair with the two of them... Sometimes that works out perfectly... other times, I keep the singleton until I come up with an almost match... Maybe one sock has an orange heel and the other sock is solid black. If I'm the only person who will ever notice, I reluctantly make a new pair using the slightly mismatched socks...
I did learn a good trick to solve this problem... I buy all my socks to match...
