Anne Rice Sure Didn’t Do Well By Her Books

Anne Rice was one of my favorite authors. I loved her Vampire Chronicles and enjoyed the Mayfair Witches series. But, when the movies started coming out I was disappointed. Interview was good although I wish they'd found someone else to play Lestat. He is my favorite character.
Now Queen of the Damned was great. This was one of my favorite books in the series and they did a pretty good job on the movie.
Now they've come out with the Mayfair series on AMC I think and it is getting horrible reviews.
The most recent series is Interview with the Vampire series and it is so off base it's very sad.
Do you know Rices work? Have you read any of her books? I really wish she had done better bringing her books to the screen. Sell the rights off sure but care about the production of the work.

I have all the Anne Rice books and haven't watched any of the movies based on them. It's been my experience that the books/novels are always better than the movies.
The authors usually don't get a say in how their books are made into movies. The studios buy the rights and do what they want with them, hoping the name recognition of the author will draw in movie viewers.

I have most of them too. I agree that the book is usually better. What I'm saying is that I just wish she had made a better choice on who she sold the rights to. Of course they don't get much of a say. Just sad that they turned out so badly.

@DaddyEvil ........true but an author has the right to set it up the way they want to or not sell.

I am not into such books, not aware of her books. But yes, I have realised that most movies and shows don't do justice to the books that they are based on. Only few do a good work.

I don't care for Cruise at all. Saw that one and it was well done. I just wish others had been as well done.

Oh who played Lestat wasn't it Tom Cruise or you did not like Stuart Townsend? Which?

I actually liked Townsends portrayal better than Cruises. Don't care for the latter at all.

We started watching the Mayfair series, but then lost interest.

I read the book about her relationship with Ted Bundy. If I sold my rights, I'd have to be there to critique the screenplay.

So would I. Maybe she was sick by that time and didn't care anymore.

@celticeagle I didn't realize she was sick. Has she passed?
