This Is Not Supposed to be a Diary Journal

I saw a couple of myLotters chatting back and forth about their earnings. Neither had made payout yet for this month. One said, "I would post more but that doesn't earn me anything, I need more replies to my posts." That was my AHA moment and should have been that myLotter's AHA moment. Sure myLotters love to talk about food and the weather. Those are two constants. But there are endless other things to talk about. And even if you DO talk about food or the weather, you can do it in a creative way like talking about an old recipe or a new restaurant you tried or something. Sure, myLot is also a place where we share our feelings. But if all of your posts every day are like this: "Got up. Had breakfast. Gonna check the mail." then it's just a diary of your daily events and doesn't encourage anyone to have anything to say to engage them in your post to have a conversation. Sure things have changed around here, we've lost a few of our regulars and the payout algorhythm is unknown but if you're not hitting $5/month here you need to look at your posts and see what you're posting and maybe change it up to invite people to interact with something interesting you've written or introduced them to. Just my two cents worth, well apparently my $8 worth as of this morning.

I've been around more the last three months or so than I have in years...I need to get in the groove of starting discussions. I have a difficult time coming up with discussion starters. Perhaps once I retire, I will have more time to devote to starters and commenting.

My life is not all that "interesting," per se, but interesting things often happen to me, which I can then write about. Plus, there are political things and money matters I can post about. The occasional food post, or a thought or idea I have. To me there's always something to write about. Granted, there are days when nothing really strikes me, and then I just wait until something comes to mind. I don't ever feel a strong need to post something every day even if I often do post at least something.

I agree. I have always said of myLot, I don't consider it a "writing" site, nor do I consider what I do here to necessarily be "writing." At the same time, I do try to post about a variety of topics and when I do, try to present it in an interesting way. Sometimes I might talk about my day. But usually when I do that, something happened that maybe I thought was interesting about it that some people might be interested in knowing about. I don't consider this a diary, either. Personally I find the "diary" posts mostly uninteresting, but often very difficult to read, and even harder to comment on because too often, there's just way too much going on in them. By the way, congrats on $8. You've passed me this month.

Some people would do a lot better if they responded to other people’s posts too. They might not even see this helpful post here because they only focus on their own discussions. No one wants to respond to you if you never ever respond to them. I just post one discussion a day, and I’m making payout this month. And some posts I’ll stare at, not knowing how on earth to respond because they don’t say much of anything to interact with (like you mentioned).

@AmbiePam THIS!! Some people complain that they have very little interaction on their posts. Umm...if you don't ever comment on their posts or anyone's, or you are selective and only comment on the same one or two people all the time, you are not going to get responses. Interaction is the key, but somehow they don't get that.

This is a good post Lou. Course none of our posts can be as interesting as your cruises! That is meant in a good way. I rarely make bank, but I don't worry about it anymore. myLot has changed in that respect a great deal since the earlier days.

I like to write various things and try not to get stuck in a rut, well except maybe sunken boats! Also, I like to get photos to accompany

I don't think anyone can really say this is a place to right any particular type of post. I write whatever I want to write, sometimes thats a run down of the day. But I at least add details so there is something for others to comment on.
