No tax on tips only lasts for 3 years

Trump randomly added that promise toward the end of his campaign and it was a winner for people struggling to pay the bills. No tax on overtime too. There is a big push now to get Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" passed and the Senate is doing a "vote-a-rama" on hundreds of proposed amendments. I've been paying attention while most US citizens have not. They have been there for like 24 hours straight and John Fetterman is already saying that he just wants to go home. The thing to know is the "no tax on tips" (and probably overtime) only lasts for 3 years. The tax cuts for the wealthy go on and on forever. They were only supposed to last for 10 years but this bill somehow evades that. Yeah good thing that the wealthy will always get the tax cuts while the waitresses, bartenders, hair stylists, etc. get that break for just 3 years.

I haven't been in the service industry for decades but you are supposed to report what you made in tips and then your employer takes the tax for them out of your next check.

Just three years? What a letdown.

Of course it only lasts for three years. That way, the Republicans can accuse the Democrats of “ending tax-free tip laws” and “raising taxes on restaurant workers.” Common ploy.

It's exactly the same here in the UK Nobody takes money from the wealthy A " wealth tax" has been suggested many times. Nothing happens, whilst the ordinary working person pays a huge % of income in taxes in various forms
