What's with chocolates these days?

This is the second lot that I found to be stale on opening the packet which I ordered online. I had complained about the weight and for that I got a refund. I was allowed to keep the chocolates - 4 packets. I opened one and they were smelling and stale. If all the packets smell this way they will just have to be discarded which is so frustrating. Has weather got to do anythig with this situation I wonder.

Who knows what it could be But I doubt that it would be the weather You would have had similar weather before And the chocolate didn't seem stale then did it?

You have a point but these days the weather has been extreme. I have complained but I cannot get a replacement as I have received a refund.

Humidity can be the cause and I understand that you had a lot of rain there.

That much rain is not needed for humidity I think it is old stock

@allknowing The chocolate always have an expiry date clearly mentioned. May be they were stored in a too warm place.

It just depends on if the chocolate got hot or not. It’s disappointing when you’re looking forward to something so tasty, and it’s a flop.

Yes, if the chocolates got hot during storage or shipping, then the fat will start separating out of the chocolate, making "bloom" patterns on them. (Light colored designs across the tops of the bars.) When that happens, the taste is affected although I've never noticed it affecting the smell of the chocolate. I hope the next ones you order are perfect and you can enjoy them. This can happen to some chocolate covered cakes and cookies, too. I stop buying them when it's hot outside and start buying them again about halfway through the winter months. (Waiting that long may seem silly, but I want them to sell out the heated stock and get in fresh stock before I start buying chocolate anything again.)

@allknowing Sometimes going to a store and buying them works better than ordering them online. You might send a maid to buy some or ask your hubby when he's coming home from work to pick some up for you and see if that helps. You're very welcome.

If you have Dark Chocolate, it will be that way till cooler weather. Even the dark chocolate covered pretzels I bought a few days ago, were weird looking, but not chalky like I have found them in the past during summer months. Really any chocolate that is left in the heat too long will turn chalky.

Those are dark chocolate eclairs. Those are online purchases and probably they were not refrigerated before packing them. Since I have got a refund I cannot even ask for a replacement.
