I am watching Wimbledon Tennis just now whilst I sit and do some Mylot.
It's starting to piss me off just a bit ..
Do they need to grunt and groan when they hit the ball ?
One of the players on just now actually does her "aaaahh" after she hits the ball, a split second delay
It's really annoying
I wondered if it annoyed the opponent
Maybe tennis could write a no grunting and groaning rule
What say you?
Maybe.tou like the grunting and groaning

I always wondered why they do that? Does it make hitting the ball easier?

Wouldnt have thought so but you never know Lena.
Can you play tennis?
If not, if you could, would you make noises?

@Ineeddentures I had lessons before but I am not great. Not sure if know all the rules. I’d not make any noise. At least not intentionally.

@lovebuglena
I was hopeless at tennis
At the end of one game I tried to jump the net and almost broke a leg

I think not many players might be doing it on purpose. Yes this can easily irritate the opponent. Or who knows some players might also be using it as a tactic in their game. But hitting the ball is a bit easier though hitting is a physical activity and grunting and groaning is more of a mental activity.
By the way I was also waiting for the Wimbledon to start last week. This is one of my favourite Grand Slams and its always fun to watch. The spectators are so calm and quiet and the appreciate your game.

@Ineeddentures Everyone is unique. So we can't say if we aren't making sounds, then others also should not. Everyone is unique.
I played cricket and used to bowl medium fast. And I had a normal action. If you remember there are some players in cricket history with unique and a very different bowling style. So they are out of the mainstream bowlers who have a normal bowling action.
Those who grunt are only out of the way players. They get exhausted a lot. So let's respect their efforts.

I played tennis and I did not grunt so I see no reason for players to grunt at all.
It's simply not tennis.
The spectators at a tennis match are really well behaved.

I would have thought that " grunting" with every shot from the very first shot in a tennis match would not be down to being exhausted
These are very very fit highly trained professional athletes so I don't get it,
Maybe later on In a 5 set match, but not from shot one

i think there is some rule as I remember a few years ago one of the players getting a warning about the noise that they were making.
I know they hit the ball with some force but all that grunting and groaning is not necessary .....there is a time and place !

I don't like that either, but I don't watch tennis, so I guess I can't complain too much.

The noises should be banned.
It really is as simple as that.
They don't need to grunt and groan every time they hit the ball
