A week or so ago, a friend asked if I could take care of some of her animals while she went on holiday. She has arranged for her brother to house-sit and care for some of the pets (two dogs, two cats, a couple of fish tanks, a snake or two and a lizard), but she thought if he had to deal with everything it might be too much. So she came round this morning with a big bag and I am now the foster carer for a giant millipede (called Brutus), an African land snail (Sauron), hundreds of isopods of two different varieties (basically fancy woodlice), and five different tarantulas: a curly hair (called Bilbo), a Brazilian black (Mouse), a Mexican red knee (Cocoa), a Martinique pink toe (Julian) and a metallic pink toe (Craig) A few days ago I mentioned to Little One that I had been asked to care for various spiders and before I could even finish what I was saying she responded with a very emphatic ‘No, you are not doing that!’ so I couldn’t even tell her that I had agreed already. Not sure what she will say when she gets home. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Some people go shopping for a new outfit or an interesting book or even a cream cake when they are feeling a bit stressed; she goes to the specialist animal shop!

Well, to me, those sound like some very unusual pets. What will you feed the tarantulas? I'm glad we're not had anything too weird in our house-sits.

They are fed live crickets. Luckily I will only need to do that once while they are here.

That is a lot of animals to take care of. I am okay with taking care of them except feeding the spiders. Either they eat cricket or dubian roach. When either escape, I will run

@Fleura Crickets can be nasty. I have a friend who keep crickets for his tarantula. A gecko fell into the cricket pail and when all the crickets were finished, He was surprise to find bones of the lizard at the bottom of the pail.

@Fleura OMG! You've brainwashed the poor young lady! You should be so ashamed of yourself! I'm glad she's having fun with them now.

@DaddyEvil It was only a front when her friends were here. She doesn't want to come near them when she doesn't have anyone to impress!

@Fleura I took a glace but I am too scared to see more. I have nightmares of house lizards falling on me...so I don't think I am ready to look at a furry lizard
