Here's the Deal! Part 1

This is a follow up to my last post of "Where Did We Go?" @id_peace guessed right with Texas! I was browsing through Marketplace Tuesday night when I came across a 24 ft. Searay HT240 Sundancer. This boat is similar to the Penn Yan boat that we last bought, but it had more of an appeal to me. I forwarded it to my husband and it must of grabbed him too because he contacted the owner. The owner wanted to get rid of it as quick as possible because it was parked at his aunt and uncle's house and being vandalized. These were all minor things, but they add up. He also had a friend that wanted the boat, but the friend planned on parting it out instead of fixing it up. Since this was his father's boat, who had passed away recently, he wanted to see the boat fixed and not destroyed. He told my husband that if he would come and look tonight (he didn't realize we were out of town/state) that he would mark the boat sold. My husband told him that we could be there tomorrow. He agreed to that so we threw some clothes together, ate real fast and hit the road. The boat was located about 40 minutes south of San Antonio, TX. We drove through the night and arrived in his city around 9 am. We stopped at IHOP and had breakfast and then went to meet the man with the boat. The boat checked out for my husband and they agreed on a price. We left and went to Tractor Supply to get some lights for the trailer and a few other things and then went back, paid for the boat, hitched it up and left. Stay tuned for Part 2! Photo Credit: My Own

That’s the kind of spontaneous road trip that turns into a great story. Hope the boat brings you both plenty of joy and smooth sailing ahead!

This one has totally taken his mind of the Penn Yan that he was so thrilled about earlier. One thing, this one will be faster to fix up!

Great that you were able to strike a deal, and what a trip that must have been. Good deals don't come often, but when they do, you have to leap. Onward and upward.

Yes, the deals do not last long at all; they are snapped up. Now I have to pull the hubby's focus back to finishing up the Maxum and selling it. He's gung ho on working on this new one now.

@porwest Exactly. That was why all this was started to begin with. Now he is going to sell that boat too. It's a comedy here.

@kareng Yeah, if the other one's going to take a back seat, it would probably be a waste to keep it around. Plus, the proceeds can go into the new project.

Wow! What a road trip. And that's a nice looking boat. I think you and your husband were smart to jump on it as quickly as you did. Considering where you live, how long of a road trip did it end up being?

We left Tuesday night and didn't get home until Thursday night. We did not get a hotel room, as the man needed to get home for a scheduled equipment delivery that needed to be signed for between 11 am and 3 pm. I'm fixing to add part 2 of this trip.

@moffittjc He had a mission to get back home. I stayed awake to make sure he didn't doze. I did sleep for 2 to 2.5 hours on the third blowout waiting for daylight.

@kareng That's quite a long trip without a break to sleep in a hotel room. But I'm sure it was a fun and memorable one for you both!

You'll have a real boatyard there soon! It's always good to pick up a bargain.

@JudyEv Yes, he already had two boats. His fishing boat and the Skeeter that he bought from his brother last summer.

The boat looks handsome and excellent. How's the motor? No issue?

The motor will need some work, such as probably new carburator and new lines. We will see when we get in to it.

You know, that must mean so much to that man to know his father’s boat won’t be torn up.

I would have loved to have seen the friend's face when told that the boat has been sold.

Oh, man, poor San Antonio and the hill country in Texas with all those floods. Glad you didn’t get caught by one. Ready for part two!

We crossed over that river and were not too far from where it flooded so bad. Such a sad situation. I actually have a cousin that lives in San Antonio that has a cousin from his wife's side of the family that is missing.
