I found this statistic astounding

It says that 1 out of 3 people in the US has a criminal record. Really? I checked a couple of sources says the same. Of course I haven't interviewed people about this, but I find that statistic astoundingly high. Is being arrested really that common? I would have thought maybe 1 out of 10. I mean if they were counting traffic tickets yeah, we could get to that 1 out of 3 I guess...but I don't think i know anybody who has a criminal record. Of course, if they do, they probably don't advertise it.

That's what I mean, where are all these criminals coming from?

@snowy22315 I guess it’s one of those situations where you can manipulate statistics. Or like they asked 800 people at a rap or heavy metal concert.

I have a “criminal record,” found guilty of failure to yield right of way in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1991.

I don't think traffic tickets are considered. That is a civil offense..unless you were charged criminally it's not.

@FourWalls I guess it was considered a form of reckless driving most times though in the event of a speeding ticket above 15 mph as long as you aren't doing anything especially dangerous..it gets marked down to regular speeding.

@snowy22315 — it wasn’t a traffic ticket, I had to “appear in court” (which I did via a letter).

You still need to be arrested at some point for that to happen. At least in our justice system as far as I know, well sometimes apparently they do just send citations or summons.

@LadyDuck That really isn't the point, you can get a citation or summons instead. It was about people having a criminal record.

@snowy22315 - I am not sure, but I do not believe that you need to be arrested.

Not sure how accurate that is, that would mean we are surrounded by criminals lol

I think that statistic sounds awfully high. I don't have one.

I don't"t think I know anybody personally that does. Well friend's brother, and my dad's brother both had DUI's come to think of it.
