My mum will be 66 on August 9 and dad will be 70 on September 23. Are they too old for cats or things aren't the same as they were, being not too excited for having a pet?
The neighbour lady was stalling with giving out the cat for weeks which turned out to be a larger kitten than my parents expected and, of course, she showed up just as they lost all their hopes or will to have a pet again.
There are about 7 cats behind them and me, if i can add myself so getting number 8 well, they decided not attaching too much but there are those little enjoyments, i bet, when someone needs you and we all like feeling that way.
And those little meows which tear you heart apart when the cat wants to go in or go out but you have boundaries to keep. Will this cat be spoiled again, probably but i hope my parents enjoy while it lasts.
I say that cause the cat will be an outdoor cat. We always had cats like that; they can occassionally come inside but their nest is in a garage. It's a countryside and it's easier for them like that but they do like wandering around, it's in their nature. The last cat they had was a male cat that wandered off and was having a lot of mood swings. I am glad this is at least a female cat; they are gentler than males and before this male one, they always had females, which were all dear to us all.
We'll see how it goes for everyone... Fingers crossed, mylotters.

Cats can be good companions or hard taskmasters as it suits them. I am glad they got the cat they wanted. I am older than both of them and I have a cat. Or he has me.

I so know the feeling. When I volunteer at the shelter, at least a couple of cats want to come home with me. Good luck.

It's nice to have a pet and cats are quite easy to care for.

Outdoor cats do have a special independence, but they also form strong bonds, especially when they know they’re safe and cared for. It’s sweet that your parents are open to sharing their space and hearts again,.
