I found this article nostalgic and just thought some of us would get a kick out of a list of sounds we won't be hearing anymore. Here's the list:
* the busy signal
* dial up and the sound of the phone line .
* an adding machine typing and the tape sounds.
* the rewinding cassette tape rewinding.
* rotary telephone click, click, clicking.
* the beeping of the old television pattern beep.
* the sound of the fax machine on the line if you dialed a wrong number.

True... but now we're subjected to conversations of other people talking loudly on their cell phones, traffic noises we never noticed before, more electronics beeping away to themselves in our houses, the sounds of the neighbor's televisions blaring too loudly, loud vehicles at all hours of the day and night...
The "quiet" noises you listed were hardly noticed at the time.

What we hear today is the sound of cellphone. We still hear the honking, the screeching of the cars in our busy streets.

For many of us, those sounds are deeply tied to memories of childhood, offices, waiting rooms, and the early days of the internet.
