From Refrigerated Truck to Melted Mess

I was born after the refrigerator replaced the icebox, but not so long after that people stopped calling it “the icebox.” I grew up knowing what frozen food was supposed to look and feel like.
So when my Walmart delivery showed up with a 40 oz. bag of—fully thawed—Great Value Pitted Dark Sweet Cherries, I knew something was wrong. It was 84°F outside, with a RealFeel of 98°. That car was basically a slow cooker on wheels.
I wasn’t the driver’s only stop, either. And I live about eight miles from the store. No insulated bags, no sign of cooling measures—I’m not even sure the AC was on. Her windows were down when she pulled up. Those cherries never stood a chance.
I called Walmart and was issued both a refund and a credit. The rep didn’t hesitate—she said that the driver would never be assigned to me again. That tells me this probably was not the first complaint.
I do not complain often, but thawed food in that kind of heat isn’t just gross—it’s unsafe.

It is unsafe
I think I would have brought it to their attention as well

@Ineeddentures That is true too.
I used to not be bothered, but then, at 20, I watched how my then boyfriend's grandmother got the milk she ordered for her coffee.
The waitress brought us Pete's iced tea and to black coffees. His grandma's was supposed to have cream and sugar. She spoke up to the waitress who said she'd get right on it.
Two more trips to our table, still no milk or cream.
Finally, when she asked if everything was okay again, Grandma snapped, "No, I still don't have my milk!"
Pete questioned his grandma because we initially thought her attitude was rude.
He and I broke up a few months later, but I never forgot what she told us.

I complain every single time they make a mistake. I also tip well and give great feedback for every successful order. There have been times I received items that I didn't order. 2 packages of pork ribs one time. I contacted them, they thanked me for being honest and said I could just keep the ribs, no charge. That was 30 bucks of ribs for free.
I don't blame you for complaining and I'm glad they gave you a refund and compensation.
So. What dessert are you making tonight with those free dark sweet cherries?

That was the right thing for that representative to do. I was also pleased she issued a credit. I hadn't asked for either. I simply wanted to report the condition of the cherries.

@Chellezhere Yes, you should have gotten a refund! No sense in that at all.

I would have turned in the driver, as that is unsafe. I'm hoping the driver changes how they deliver in the future or finds a new job.

I turned her in immediately. The rep said the driver would never deliver to me again. I hope she delivers to no one.

No, these companies hire people to drive their own cars. They are independent contractors.

It's the right thing to do in situations like this.

Glad you got a refund that was a really dumb thing for the driver to do,

She should have an insulated cooler on board. I hate hearing about wasted food.
