Remember "Grease"?

We all saw "Grease", right? The 1978 movie adaption and Paramount block buster about bad boy Danny Zuko who falls for Australian good girl , Sandy, over summer vacation. He must navigate the challenges when she moves to the United States and joins the student body at California's Rydell High School. As of May 2025 "Grease" ranks fourth highest grossing film adaption of a Broadway play only trailing "Wicked", "Mamma Mia", and "Les Miserables". It is included in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. It was Paramount's highest earner having been made for only $6 million and grossing more than $130 million. On June 27th John Travolta made a surprise appearance at the Hollywood Bowl Grease sing-a-long event. He came on stage in full greaser attire including black leather jacket, t-shirt and jeans. The only difference in his outfit was that the 71 year old actor sported the signature pompadore hair style but with grey/vintage blond wig rather than the jet-black one his character had in the 1978 film. Travolta channeled the Danny Zuko persona greeting the packed house and leading them in song after song. Several of the original "Grease" co-stars were there. Didi Conn, who played Frenchy; Barry Pearl, who played Doody; Michael Tucci, who played Sonny; and Kelly Ward, who played Putzie. Randal Kleiser, who was the film's director, was also there. Stockard Channing, Jamie Donnelly and Dinah Manoff were not. Olivia-Newton -John's absence made the affair rather sad since she had died of breast cancer in August of 2022 at age 73. She and Travolta and had remained close since making the film together. During his performance Travolta led the audience in singing part of "We Go Together" and the memorable "a-womp-bop-a-looma a-womp-bam-boom" chant, This connected the original cast with the overwhelmed audience. The audience responded with cheers and a standing ovation clearly moved by Danny Zuko's surprise appearance. (John Travolta has always been a favorite of mine. I enjoy his charisma and down-to-earth persona. His smile is mesmerizing and his eyes sparkle.)

@RebeccasFarm I liked him better in Saturday Night Fever too. I also loved the music from that movie and still have the record album. It was my prized record album as a teenager.

What a great night that would have been. Olivia's passing was very sad.

I saw the pic in People Magazine. I think John looks better now than when he was very young. So sad about Olivia.

What fun. He was a good sport. It was a great movie. It was my high school senior play in 1983.
