Employees with the Santa Clara Animal Services and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife answered a call on Thursday June 12 when a large black and white Argentine tegu was seen at a dam near Grant Lake.
The park rangers and Maintenace employees contacted the authorities to capture the huge lizard from the park and take the animal to an animal shelter in the county where the lizard will be taken care of by the Santa Clara County officials until the lizard is either reunited with its owner or be adopted by employees at the animal shelter.

A loose lizard can be a dangerous animal to try to capture.

I wish I could tell you based on the source of the report the size of the lizard myself. The article source did not mention the size of the lizard.

That's the largest lizard I have ever seen.
I believe people keep them as pets in America, but if they are allowed to run loose in the wild, they can quickly destroy native ecosystems, as being 4 feet long, or more, they can decimate local species. They can eat birds, and their eggs too, and small mammals.

I'm glad the lizard was captured and might be adopted.
