YouTube uploaded it's first video on April, 23, 2005. It was a video entitled "Me at the Zoo" and showed co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. The site officially launched in December 2005 with about 2 million video views each day. By January 2006 the sight was getting about 25 million views each day.
Now YouTube gets billions of video viewing hours each day. It has over 122 million active viewers daily.
My grandson and I are on YouTube daily. He watches countless videos on how to play his video games and on different subjects he is curious about. I have several favorite channels and watch many of them daily. I also go there to find new and interesting subject matter to post about on Mylot.
It is a great site to go to and find all manner of things about any subject you can think of.

I normally watch a few hours of YT videos every day, from friends livestreaming video games to archeological digs and the latest finds about the human/Neanderthal/Denisovan species.

It's a rabbit hole. Once you're in it, it's difficult to stop watching videos. I lose track of time whenever I watch podcasts. YouTube can be fun and informative if used mindfully.
