That's how I make my compost at home

I thought I would share the recipe of making compost fertilizer at home. So that's how I started. First of all I took a pot and put around 20% of black soil. Then as you can see, there was this green waste from the kitchen. I made small pieces of the green waste with the help of scissors and put then in the pot. As you can see that was the first layer of the green waste. After that, I put some soil and again made similar layer of the waste by cutting them into small pieces. Along with that green waste, I used the outer layers of garlic - forgive my English LOL.. I don't know what's that called - that ws throw away. I also included 5 to 6 banana peels along with that. What isn't there in the picture is dried leaves and flowers. It enhances the quality of the compost because it balances both carbon and nitrogen. I hope I have written in a as simple language as possible. I would like to know if I am carrying out any steps wrong. If that's the case, I would really love to hear someone correct me.

Yes. You heard that right. Earth worms do magic and that's why they are called the friends of farmers.

@vandana7 Can't count out cow dung. It has innumerable positives. And is often used in our culture for various reasons.

That's nice. We get to use natural resources for making our own vegetables and fruits. No chemicals.

I think any mix of waste vegetation mixed with soil will make good compost if you leave it to mature.

Right. Right. That's exactly what I am doing now. I'll have to wait before I'm able to use the compost for my plants.

We use nettles we collect from the local park, mixed with water ….makes a great fertiliser.

Didn't know that nettles can be used as a part of fertilizer. So it falls in the compost category?

i have never tried composting since we have a limited space in our yard but i want to try too. We also plant some tomatoes and radish but we buy soil from garden supply store, the store is so far from our house, we need to travel for 1 hour just to buy garden soil. i hope in the future we can compost our own too so that we dont need to travel far just to buy garden soil.

I have never bought garden soil even when the place is just 5 minutes drive from my home. If you do proper composting even you won't feel the need to buy soil. But yes composting does take some time and we need to be a bit patient with that. But once that's done, it will save you a lot of time, efforts, and money as well.

@Soobinah No worries. You can compost in your pots too, maybe a couple of pots simultaneously. The only thing is that the quantity will not be what you would want. But because you would compost yourself, you would know the quality.

@abhi_bangal but we dont have enough space in our yard to compost, we also just plant in a vase.
