I Tipped Her My Discount

Can you believe a haircut at Great Clips is $22 now? Just a few years ago it was $15, then it went to $18, then $20, and now it's $22. I mean, it's not like I'm Crystal Gale walking in there even if I do tend to wait a bit between cuts. I still don't have that much hair to cut, and I'm usually in and out of the chair in 15 minutes tops. I mean, is a hairdresser really worth $88 an hour, which would be the equivalent? Anyway, I know some women spend much more on their hair. I'm just venting. Inflation sucks. In any event, I expected to pay $27 when I walked in the door. The $22 for the cut and the typical $5 I tip. That's a 23% tip by the way which I think is more than fair, and hairdressers are of course paid a full wage. But I have always tipped them, and so, it is what it is. When I went to pay, she asked if I was military. I told her I was a veteran, and she gave me $2 off my bill. Instead of take advantage of the offered veteran discount, I added the $2 to her tip making it $7. Complain as I might, and appreciative as I am to be honored for my service with a little kick back, I don't need the money, she seemed like a nice girl, and she did a good job... So, I gave it to her.

@Ineeddentures Oh geez. How did I know that was coming? And I am probably stepping into even worse territory making THAT last comment.

I no longer color my hair to save money and I just keep it snipped shoulder length, However, from what you said I guess your haircut was reasonable enough,

My wife stopped dying her hair a few years ago as well and has just let it go gray. I like it on her. She used to color it herself, though, so it didn't cost a whole lot.

@porwest I find getting my haircut to be excruciatingly complicated and a very unpleasant experience. And yes, it’s unreasonably expensive.

$22 does just seem like a lot to me. Especially for a guy's head.

I usually leave a $5 tip. When I go to get my hair colored, cut, washed, and blown out, depending on what’s done in terms of color, I can pay anywhere from $160 to $240 I think and it doesn’t include tip. My guy is Turkish. That’s crazy I know but he does an amazing job!

What women pay for their hair is absolutely nuts to me. Luckily my wife isn't in that group, but she's also in the minority on that. lol

@lovebuglena I have to say, 99% of the time I see what the women have done and think...Great Clips could have done what you got done there for $25. lol

I just got a hair cut at Great Clips for $16 (senior hair cut). Could they have raised their prices already?

@porwest It must vary from state to state.

@LindaOHio I would imagine it probably does with some of the highest prices probably being in places like California, New York and New Jersey.

I don't remember what the senior cut was, but I think it was $20. I could be wrong about that. Different areas might also have different prices. Not sure.

I did them at home, free, for many years. I couldn't keep the birds from trying to lay eggs on my head.

My husband paid $25 the last time he went. He stopped going as often. It's crazy. I have done the same thing. I only go like once a year now, it that.

I usually go to Sports Cuts, because they’ll cut my hair “boot camp” style. I did get my most recent haircut at Great Clips, which I normally consider an inappropriate name for the place (the ones I’ve been to), but this was a great cut! Love the way it’s growing out.

Boot camp style was different for the ladies. We men got one option. Scalped. lol

The last time I had my hair professionally cut was so long ago that the cost at Great Clips was 8 dollars a cut and a two dollar tip. That was nice of you to forward your discount to the tip you paid.

As I often like to say about my military experience, I am more honored to have had the privilege of serving than to be honored for having served. I always appreciate the thanks, but I didn't do it to be thanked or appreciated for it. I did cut my own hair for a very long time as well. It just became something I decided just to shell out a few extra bucks for, so I added it into the budget and make sure the stock market pays for it, like it does most things. lol
