I am so late...What?!?

I woke up so late this morning that I was about ten minutes late for my first online class with the student. I am still too sleepy to come up with a plausible alibi. I apologized to the student and just informed the company that we were experiencing an unscheduled power outage. It is my bad to tell a lie today. As they claimed, "Liars go to hell." At least, I extended the class to compensate for the time for being late. Am I a bad person for being a liar today? Image Credit: media.istockphoto.com

No Not at all But you should have just said you over slept. It's not unusual for people to oversleep

I am about to say this to my supervisor, but it will have a long discussion. I took the chance to have a valid reason not to be penalized.

No, I don't think so... As long as the student got their full amount of time in class and it didn't cause a scheduling conflict for them or you, it should be okay. I hope you both enjoyed the class.

We did enjoy the class despite being lightheaded when talking to him. The good thing was, he accepted my apology.

You're human, so no. We all have those moments where we slip up, especially when we’re caught off guard or feeling flustered. More importantly, you took responsibility for it in your own way and worked to correct it by extending the class. Your character is not defined by one small lie in a time of need, particularly if your goal was to still show up and treat your student well. Simply use it as a reminder to be kind to yourself and set an extra alarm for the next time.

@Shavkat Okay, so you must not be getting enough sleep, which is why you chose to extend your sleep. I'm not sure how much sleep you typically get. You might have trouble waking up in the morning because you are a light sleeper.

I guess I need to set another alarm clock to wake me up. Actually, I did wake up and still tried to sleep a little longer. But I lost track of the time to wake up again.

You have a point. I did sleep early, but my body still wants to lie on my bed today. I am in my last morning class and ready to throw myself on my warm bed again.

in this kind of weather plus all the cool weather there at your area, I am pretty sure I will also still feel sleepy like you

Everybody makes mistakes now and then. It is alright to try to avoid it next time. At least you already extended the class and I think you already tried to fix the mistake.

power outtage is reasonable excuse since we've been experiencing rains so hard this entire week. I don't blame you for being sleepy at all. They were times that I have lied. Thy were times were they think i was lying.

I'm pretty sure you'll be forgiven. And you made up the time so that's a good thing.

You extended the class as a way of saying sorry …telling a lie is not good but there was a reason and you did something good to help put it right.
