So I’m not sure what you call them in your part of the world.
In the UK they are called tatters …or…rag and bone men.
They are the people who drive round looking for rubbish that people have thrown out ….metal objects can be sold on for scrap.
They also have a good mooch about in skips to see if there is anything valuable or if they can sell on anything.
Anyway, we had some old piping and taps hanging about and The Mister had put them out on Sunday ….usually anything like that goes the same day or at the latest the next day. I was surprised when I went back to Moms on Wednesday that they were still where they had been left. However, when we got back last night they had gone.
What do you call rag and bone men in your area….?

We don't have specific people that go around collecting things - not that I know of anyway. Sundry people might stop and take things they see but mostly it would be stuff they want for themselves.

We called our rag and bone man Karang Guni. I cannot remember what it meant. We will usually pass them our old newspaper and old clothes for very little cash. For electronic items, we have better luck trading them to the second hand shop as these people are low ballers. They will offer a very very low price and hope that they will strike lottery.

I don't think we have a name for them... When we don't want something that's still got some wear left in it, we set it out beside our street and hang a sign on it that says "Free"... Usually Mexicans will come by and haul it away. I've put out defunct lawn mowers, bed frames or old furniture beside the street and they're usually gone in an hour or two.
