Do You Hug Hello and Goodbye?

United States

My family didn't grow up being physically demonstrative. We didn't hug hello and goodbye. Hubby's family hugs hello and goodbye. I don't mind hugging sometimes but it has to be somebody I WANT to hug and not just because it's their "thing." Gen Z is tired Baby Boomers hugging hello. They fear germs and are all around "consent" to physical touch. They invented the fist bump. Where do you stand on hugging hello and goodbye to friends or family?

@looeyville I’m not an habitual hugger or kisser. Our year living in Paris was one long series of mostly unwanted embraces. Parisians tend to kiss 4 times - on the cheek just. We called at my brother’s house one night and he had 6 friends in - that meant 28 kisses were planted on me in quick succession. I felt molested. And they were all ill-shaven men so my wife got beard rash.

I'm a big time hugger. My husband was not demonstrative at all. Never got used to that.

Mostly people hug or shake hands here. You wouldn't hug a relative stranger but once you know someone a bit you would mostly hug them.
