What's Wrong With Calling Somebody?

Gen Z is crazy.
They say that calling them on the phone without a prior text warning that they're going to call is rude.
Seriously?
I can remember running to the phone so excited when it would ring. This was back in the days when phones were tethered to the wall. I couldn't wait to find out who was calling.
Gen Z says "an unexpected ringtone can trigger the same startle response as a fire alarm."
Oh grow a pair, would you?!
Experts say that Gen Z doesn't hate talking, they just like to "opt in" first. They expect you to send them a text saying, "Got five minutes for a call later?” instead of you just calling them.
I just find this ridiculous. What do you think?

I don't want to talk to somebody on the phone. I much prefer to send a text message and then see what the other person has to say.
All Gen Zers have to do is turn the ringer off on their phones if they don't want calls.
My daughter doesn't want anyone calling her so she gives people/businesses my phone number and then when someone does call, I have to go find her and hand her my phone so she can talk with them... I've started telling people she has her own phone and give them the number for it.

I agree that that's a crazy concept. With caller ID they can see who's calling and answer if they want.

@looeyville When my grandmother got a phone in the 60s she wouldn’t leave the house in case someone phoned and then started to worry when no-one answered. What you describe is nonsense. If the person being called hasn’t time for a call then they just won’t answer, and the sound of an unexpected text is just as alarming as the sound of an unexpected call. Even to think of such things is craziness.

phone calls with friends are so nice! talking with them for an hour. no need to message them or to inform them that you will call. but if the gen z now wants to be notified first before calling is a bit off for me. what if its emergency? what if the call is important? do i have to ask permission before i would call them?hmm
