No Goodbye

Do you notice that what has been happening the past few years is that when people move out out even ones with children or adults that have made friends with children move and don't say goodbye? My grandson has played with many children here at the apartment complex that we live in. Then all of the sudden they are not there! They will be playing one day and the next day knock on their door and no answer. Another neighbor tells us that they have moved! They know they are moving because they have to give sixty days notice! It didn't used to be that way. Why is it all of the sudden happening? Does this happen in your area?

It happened a few months ago when my former next-door neighbor did leave his home without saying goodbye since he valued his privacy.

We just thought it was strange since the children played together on a daily basis.

@dfollin I know what you mean since my previous next door neighbor had no children.

it is the way of life. Human relationships are getting colder by the day.

Saying 'thank you' seems to be getting rarer too.

No. It's a very permanent residency here. Very rarely does someone move.

Nobody cares now no matter if they are attached to someone who cares.

At one time, I could name every neighbor and their kids and even their dogs or cats. We had block parties once a year, parties on the holidays and would stop to talk every time we met. As the years passed, more of the older residents were replaced by younger families. There were fewer people at parties. Soon, the entire neighborhood had turned over and only 4 of the families that were here when I moved in, are still here. No big goodbyes or fanfare. Just new faces. Today, I can only name those original 4 families and only the first names of three other neighbors. I can, of course remember their dogs names. In this age of communication, people have forgot how to actually communicate. The feel of closeness has disappeared.

Most parents don't want to hear their kid(s) crying and carrying on because Little Jimmy down the street is moving away and they might not see him again, so they don't tell their kids they're moving until the last minute... If I'm already stressed from getting everything ready to move, the LAST thing I want to hear is my kid carrying on because they're leaving their friend behind.
