I am new to Pasta but do have access to know what it is all about I have eaten noodles and spaghetti and all along thought that is all there is to Pasta. Browsing I see there are as many as 600 different types of Pasta Many myLotters swear by it and for some it is a staple diet. But I am curious to know from these learned myLotters how many types of Pasta they know and have consumed!! Have a nice day Image Credit:

The grandfather of my husband was from south of Italy, my husband loves pasta. I mainly use those kind of pasta listed below: Fettuccine Tagliatelle (a bit larger than fettuccine) Pappardelle (larger than tagliatelle) Lasagne Penne Cavatappi (corkscrews) Tortiglioni Maccheroni Paccheri (very large maccheroni) Penne Conchiglie (shells) Occhi di Lupo (wolf's eyes) Spaghetti Linguine (flat spaghetti) Fusilli (spiral shaped pasta)

Are all those ready made or you make some of them yourself? They are all tongue twisters. I think I have used shells to put in soups. Do all those have different tastes?

@allknowing Those I make myself are the lasagna noodles and the tagliatelle and fettuccine, those are all egg pasta, I buy all the the durum wheat pasta. The taste is not different, but how the sauce you make goes with the shape makes the whole difference. I forgot two that I also buy orecchiette (from Apulia) busiate (Sicilian to make Pasta alla Norma) those are sold in refrigerated area of the stores, fresh pasta to make southern Italy specialties.

I love pasta and probably eat it more often than I should... Pasta is very fattening and I am trying to lose weight now. When I make pasta at home, I will make spaghetti, rotini pasta, angel hair pasta, lasagna, fusilli and fettuccine. Pretty makes macaroni with cheese once in a while. (I will eat that but they remind me of the macaroni and cheese that mom made all the time until I didn't want it anymore. I'd rather not eat it unless there's nothing else to eat.) Pretty also buys Ramen noodles all the time and I won't eat those.

I almost felt I was in a Pasta market with so many varieities to choose from and to think tha tyou and Pretty made all those is fascinating I would equate it to rice but we only have limited things that we make using rice and may be a few things using wheat Most of those names ae tongue twisters

@allknowing Names for pasta can be difficult to say if you're just reading them... But, once you hear them, they turn out to be very easy and memorable to pronounce. The rotini and fusilli pastas both hold a lot of sauce so are my favorite types. (They're both twisted pasta.)

My grand kids love pasta & due to the hundreds of different types of pasta available the choice can be confusing & it is possible to create so many different types of meals. Did you know the winner is rice with over 40,000 varieties. Potatoes 4,000 types of potatoes. I make a simple dish of pasta add garlic, salt, pepper, onion, chilli, cream cheese & milk. It take minutes to make & is delicious.

@garymarsh6 Browsing is a sure way to get drunk with knowledge. Never knew there were blue bananas. But have you ever got the urge to go in search of these unique finds?

@allknowing I too was shocked at the many varieties of basic products we take for granted. You are inquisitive like I am, knowledge is your friend. I love to learn new things all the time It is the same with fruits so many varieties. One variety we never see in England is red bananas but you are lucky having them in India. They are very sweet & delicious. There is also a blue variety of banana one people are rarely aware of. I was mesmerized by the fruit of the cheese plant. They have the appearance of corn on the cob but taste of strawberries & cream with a hint of pineapple. Mangoes are just full of magical tastes & aromas. I do love tropical fruits.

Pasta really is an endless world of shapes, flavors, and textures. Most people are familiar with the basics like spaghetti and penne.
