I have grown some veggies in the past ….but want to do more next year ….we have a fairly small garden so space is limited , but I have been thinking about what I should grow….i know it’s really down to personal choice of what we like, but I’m looking for ideas of what is fairly easy to grow as I am also at work so time is also limited.
I am thinking beetroot, leeks, squash. I want to grow cauliflower but I’ve heard they are extremely difficult. They are, however very expensive so I would like to try a couple at least.
So, dear MyLotters ….any ideas would be welcomed …..

Since it's almost August, you'll need to select something that can reach maturity relatively quickly. Lettuce, green beans, snap peas and radishes come to mind.
Carrots and beets will continue to mature as the weather grows cooler provided there are an abundance of warm sunny days over the next two months. Time is running short for most other things.

You must live in a place where the cold and lack of sunshine isn't as harsh as here. The risk of freeze is present here from mid October through mid March.
A good frost will kill everything planted that's above ground.
I used to grow many crops but life happened and I'm unable to get around as much as I'd like. I hope that changes soon.
Good luck on the garden this fall

I've never grown cauliflower... so I don't have any idea if they're easy or difficult to grow.
When I was growing veggies in pots on my front porch, I grew bell peppers, bunch onions, spinach and lettuce.
Bunch onions are really easy to grow. We always bought some from the grocery store, clipped the leaves off to use in cooking and planted the bulb back in the dirt in a pot. As long as you keep watering them during the summer, the leaves would keep growing and you can keep clipping them off to use with eggs or soups.
I had to put a wire mesh over the lettuce on our porch because a little fat squirrel thought I'd planted those for him. He'd pull the lettuce up by the roots and eat the whole thing. After I put wire over the top of the pot, he'd sit on it and scold me for blocking him from eating them.
(I don't like lettuce but Pretty does.)

I have grown bell peppers in the past …thats a good one actually . I think what you call bunch onions we might call spring onions ….a white bulb and green long stalks ? I think the Irish call them scallions. My Dad grew them years ago …might give those a go too. I don’t eat much spinach so I won’t bother with that one. Will do lettuce in the summer , I don’t eat much in the winter months …im not that keen, as I never think it tastes of very much.
Thank you for the ideas , it’s given me food for thought ….pardon the pun !

An English lady on myLot calls them bunch onions. We call them green onions here. Yes, white bulb and green leaves.
I add spinach to sandwiches instead of lettuce. Lettuce is just green watery yuck to me.
You're very welcome.

@traceyjayne I grow good potatoes (although we don’t really eat potatoes so I give them to our sons) and it’s very easy. I plant first earlies in mid March, 17th usually, and lift them at the end of June. I grow them in potato bags, not in the ground. They like water and they need to be earthed up to keep the tubers away from the light. Courgettes are also easy.

I don't really have much idea about what would grow well there. Good luck with whatever you decide.
