It’s July ….and there is Halloween stuff everywhere….

We popped into town yesterday to get a few bits for The Mister to take to work ….stuff for sandwiches and snacks …and in almost every shop we went into we were greeted with ….HALLOWEEN ! It’s still July, the schools here have just broken up for the summer holidays and I get miffed when they show back to school uniform adverts …it’s just too soon . But, for goodness sake ….Halloween in July, that really is silly. Let us enjoy life at its own pace …stop trying to fast forward everything.

I am a manager at a major home improvement retailer in the US, and we already have all our Halloween decorations displayed and out on the shelves, and people are already buying it. And just this morning, we got our first shipment of Christmas merchandise delivered to our store. We won't put out our Christmas merchandise for another two months, but it's crazy that it's already being shipped to us.

@Traceyjayne I was at Disney World in Orlando, Florida last week, and I'm pretty sure the entire population of the UK was there on holiday! So many, in fact, that I'm pretty sure I was starting to speak with an English accent after the weekend was over!

@moffittjc I wonder which particular accent you were hearing ….there are lots. Yes, the schools broke up for summer last week so there will be many visitors over the next 6 weeks.

I worked at Walmart for almost 15 years and they start putting out holiday decorations so early that I was burned out on the holidays way before the holidays even got here! I haven't decorated for any holidays at home since I started working there! I know the stores want our holiday dollars, but this is silly!

@Traceyjayne I breeze past holiday displays until the holiday is almost here and then I look at the displays... Sometimes I see something I want and wait until the day after the holiday to buy it. Pretty always does that with clothes now... She looks to see what they have in holiday clothes and then goes in the day after the holiday and buys them at half price. We don't throw parties so don't need or care about holiday junk.

@DaddyEvil I’m the same ….so I think by having holiday items in store now, people will only buy once …and I would have thought closer to the holiday …so they have in this case three months of trying to sell Halloween stuff when they could sell other stuff for at least two of those months AND still sell all the Halloween stuff ! What a crazy world !

That’s the thing …I don’t think anyone will spend any more whether the items are out in July or beginning of October ….or are the stores banking on people buying items now then forgetting where they put them, and buying them again ! To my mind they will only get the same money now as in October.

I know, but I like it because I got some stuff for my trip to New Jersey in November. My boyfriend and I are going to see Twilight in concert.

It's annoying how all the holiday stuff gets put out so early.
