EXCEPTIONAL!!!

I am going to gush a bit here, so please do pardon me in advance. But as I have written about customer service here so many times before, there's one thing that is probably abundantly clear about me. Bad customer service is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. And unfortunately, that's the rule, not the exception, that what you expect first and almost always is, bad customer service. But that wasn't the case at all today when I went to AutoZone to have a new battery installed for my wife's car. The woman who greeted me was top notch. She greeted me promptly with a smile. When I asked if they still installed batteries, she joked, "No. I'm sorry, we don't do that anymore," and when I started with a look of disappointment, she immediately gave me a bigger smile and told me she was only kidding. She'd won me over already. She was outstanding, helping me to find the battery I needed, even going outside to check when I wasn't sure of the model of my wife's car, "to stay cool." LaVontay, who installed my battery was also top notch. He had trouble getting the negative terminal off the post, but kept a good attitude, didn't lose his temper, and just did what he had to do. I gave him a $10 tip, which he didn't want to take. I insisted and told him, "Man, you were struggling there a bit and it's 100 degrees out here. I really appreciate it." I don't always do the surveys on the receipts. But I did this time for sure. I felt it was important to call these two exceptional employees out and thank the business for strong hiring practices and hiring exceptional people. As I mentioned in my comments on the survey, "I know I am gushing. I get it. But exceptional service like this is simply so rare, it just really strikes you. You can't NOT notice it. Again, we're not talking about good service, or even great service. We're talking about EXCEPTIONAL service, and not enough can be said to emphasize this." Needless to say, I was very pleased despite having to shell out money for a battery, and those things aren't cheap.

There are little nuggets of good customer service left in this nation. I'm glad you found one of them; and I'm glad you told the company about the excellent service you received.

@porwest Yes a lot of companies just don't care when you complain. Sometimes I never even get a response. Sad.

@LindaOHio It really is. Companies have become so big, customers are just a grain of sand on a very big beach to them. They don't even see you.

Few and far between, which makes it really stand out when you come across it. It should be the other way around and bad service should be the thing that stands out. Oh well. A sign of the times, I guess.

That's great that you got such good service but a shame that it's so rare nowadays.

I think part of it is that everything is so corporate these days, and while that's a good thing and a bad thing, when it comes to customer service, there's just less oversight and less hands on at the front-end levels. That creates a disconnect, and at the same time, many people in management positions don't feel enough of a connection between where their paychecks come from truly, which isn't from the company, but the customers, and many have this mentality that the customer is more of an annoyance than an asset. Thus, they don't encourage customer service as a primary function of their employees' interactions with customers. There's a reason many smaller mom and pop operations generally offer much better service and that's because they fully understand their entire survival depends on customers being happy and coming back time and time again. At Joe's Retail Shop they care if you don't come back. At Walmart, they couldn't care less.

Glad you got such great service. Knowing how much there is to make sure a car works well I am glad I no longer have one.

I could never give up a vehicle. For many reasons, a vehicle is absolute freedom to me. That's something I will never compromise on, no matter the cost.
