So much for getting the screen fixed

I was in Richmond today and the potential costs and problems of getting the screen in the laptop fixed really put me off it diagnostic fee, possibility of having to send to China for the screen if nothing here fits etc. Nothing is cheap anymore. However, I did find a nice replacement laptop very similar to what I have now quite reasonably priced in Amazon .and the great news is it will be here Thursday I will give my son the old happy and see if he can repair it. It can be a back up or could be sold if he is successful

I was just going to suggest to check Amazon, it's where I bought a replacement computer, not expensive and I am very happy with it.

@LadyDuck That laptop is OK, but not high end, With my luck something else would break on it, and then you would be out the money you spent on the screen~

@snowy22315 Often trying to fix something is wasted money.

I have always been told that it is usually cheaper to buy a new item! Richmond, Virginia?

@snowy22315 I live in Stafford about a little over an hour from Richmond. I go there every 3 months to see my Oncologist.

I have that one laptop that needs a new screen. They told me it will take a while to find one since it was an old model and almost every month there is a new and advanced model coming out, that they do not do much parts already of the olfer ones.

I didn't know they were so specialized. I thought they were basically interchangeable

Sometimes fixing things just feels impossible, or unreasonable.

It would be just my luck they would have to send to China for a screen and it would take 3 weeks!

I hope you like your new one. I never could get into laptops, but if I had needed everything laptops are for, I imagine I would have used mine more.

Yeah, that’s the bad thing…it’s become cheaper to replace than to repair. That used to be the way Circuit City was: charge you more to repair something than to buy a brand new one. No wonder they went out of business with nonsense like that. I’m sorry you had to get a new one, but I’m glad you did find one that’s inexpensive and that you’ll have quickly.

Yeah, I think it will be very similar to the other one. The lady that was in there before me paid 527 for hers!!

It’s a shame you have had to buy a new laptop but I guess your son will be happy to get the old one.

Repairing a laptop is not economical these day. It's better to purchase a new one.
