The major destination for this trip was reached! And now y’all are in trouble. Here comes a boatload of boring history!!!
My major plan for this trip was to go to the Sultana museum. I made it today, and it did not disappoint in the least. (Well, except that it wasn’t overflowing with people like it should have been…)
Sooo…what was the Sultana, why is there a museum for it outside of West Memphis, Arkansas, and why was I so desperate to see it? Stay tuned!!
The photo here is the exterior of the current museum (I passed the future museum, under construction, on my way in). You see an artist’s representation of the disaster that occurred on April 27, 1865. It stands as the worst maritime disaster in American history.

When I finally left the display the museum guide said, “So you love to read.” Yes, I read or took pictures of all the informational displays.

@LindaOHio — can’t help myself! And I consider “history nerd” a very high compliment.

I think we'll survive another history lesson... I hope you enjoyed the drive and found some good places to eat along the way.

I ate at Corky’s. It’s a Tennessee chain of BBQ, mainly in Memphis and the Smokies. Always good pulled chicken!

@FourWalls I love a good barbecue place! I don't know if it's still there but there was one in Marionville (a tiny town six miles away from here) that Pretty and I used to eat at once in a while. It had really good food before the pandemic.

I think my sister must telepathically know you because she took her kids to four museums today when she came down for Hudson’s doctor appointment. That sounds so much like you! I have been to two of the four she visited, but she told me I needed to go back to the Cowboy Hall of Fame since it is much more interesting than it was when we were kids. They also went to the First Americans Museum which I went to two years ago. If you ever go there, make sure you try their restaurant. Their dishes are all dishes that were common with First Americans “back in the day”. They even have a window showing the garden where they grow the ingredients the First American most commonly grew to eat.
