Stolen watch and other creepy goings on.

My memory was jolted tonight by a post written by @ambiepam about watches. I replied that my first watch was given to me on my seventh birthday by my parents - I felt so grown up.
But that watch didn’t last long on my arm - it was stolen while I was wearing it. We had travelled 500 miles from where we lived to the capital (of Malawi) to stay with friends. My father, my self and my brother stayed with one set of friends while my mother and our baby brother stayed with others up the road.
On the first morning my father, brother and I woke feeling a bit fuzzy headed, and the details filled themselves in bit by bit as we started to get ready for the day. We had been robbed. In fact the only possessions that we had left were the pyjamas we were wearing, and my watch had been removed from my arm.
Fortunately most of our clothes etc were with my mother in the house where she was staying and eventually we got clothes sent down to us.
The reason we did not waken while being robbed was that we had been rendered useless by ether, the then favourite method of thieves. We just slept through it all including me being divested of my precious watch.
Thieves also employed another tactic at that time though I don’t know if it happened in our case because we slept through it.
They would take off all their clothes, yes all of them, and slather themselves in grease so that if anyone woke and tried to grab onto them they would just slip right through their hands. It was a very disturbing thought, that a team of naked men might have been in our bedroom that night while we slept, taking all our clothes and removing my watch.

Wow! I'm glad they didn't hurt any of you while you slept.

Ether? Ugh! That sure sounds scary. To be so helpless in sleep mode and have someone take advantage like that. Pretty ingenious of thief.

That is such a traumatic story. You said you were staying with friends. Where were they while you were being robbed?
