I met a guy in a grocery store

I didn’t expect to see what I saw.
He was crying. Like real tears, hands in his head, completely hopeless, grabbed me by the arm.
It was in the coffee aisle at Walmart.
And I only go to Walmart which is quite a hike for me now but I have to drive all the way back to my old ‘hood just to get this particular coffee.
So he grabs my arm and says, “All this coffee, look at the prices. I swear I’m not being overindulgent or a snob, but I need my coffee. Look at these prices. I honestly don’t know what to do. It’s all over for me.”
I was sure he was gonna ask me for $$ or something, but this was no guy off the street. Decent-looking guy having a meltdown over the price of coffee. I just took him by the hand and showed him the coffee I was about to get for myself.
I asked him if he had a coffeemaker, he said yes, so I showed him the Great Value Caramel Pecan, got one for me, and handed one to him. I said, “Just get this one, it’s cheap, and delicious.”
He was so grateful. Then he realized he was crying and quickly became embarrassed.
I just told him don’t sweat it, the grocery prices are insane and we’re expected to remain calm while money is just flying out of our pockets to afford the basics.
It’s a shame it’s come to this.
Note: Appreciate the responses to last discussion! Will get to them soon. Xo
I don’t know much about governments or presidents, but something needs to be changed, and fast.

Yeah, it was like the straw that broke the camel’s back. But they were just getting ready to close (that’s the only time I shop there, it’s PACKED during the day) you know Walmart and it’s like he was in a rush, and those big double digit prices were probably just screamin’ at him. Thanks Amber

I am giving up buying several things because the prices have gone up so much. Coffee is more expensive but I cannot function without my morning coffee. I do not drink anymore my after lunch coffee.

I almost cried at the store today.

It was just too much for him. Looked like he just got off work too, he was wearing some kind of uniform like he worked for the city or landscaping or something, hard-working honest guy. Hated to see him in that state. Thanks rakski These prices are triggering us all

yeah coffee prices are high. My mother drinks coffee (I don't) and she is often asking me to buy her some.

I can relate to this
I was just about in tears when I saw the price of a bottle of Fireball in Tesco today
£8 more than on Amazon.
Seriously though, shopping for groceries can be traumatic

Crying in the Chapel, yeah, but crying in the aisle? That’s a chat up line I’ve never used.
I love coffee, but it’s usually an instant I drink these days. For a while I did enjoy filtered coffee, but I decided it was too much faff. I’ve still got some in a cupboard somewhere, but it’s probably gone bitter by now.

Probably. I keep mine in the same plastic grocery bag I bought it in, always.
I’ve tried all different ways of keeping it fresh, Tupperware box with lid, tin can, you name it. What works the best is just putting it right back in the grocery bag, smash out any extra air, and keep it wrapped up tight. Looks kinda sloppy, but hey it works.
Thank you Ors

Goodness me …it’s very sad that people are actually in a store and crying about the prices.

I know! It’s like the situation didn’t quite match the emotion, but for a split second, I tried to see that coffee aisle thru his eyes.. and yeah. It was all very overwhelming with most coffees in the double digits, mine was the only one that was around 5 bucks.
It’s not the biggest bag, but I can make it last exactly one month. It really is worth the monthly trip to Walmart. Glad I could help the guy out (I know his name) but it doesn’t feel right to blab it online. Thanks Traceyjayne
