What's for din? August 3rd, 2025

Tonight’s dinner was… well, let’s call it “planned spontaneity.” I had the meat thawing, so technically I was prepared, but I had zero idea what it was going to become. After a dramatic five-minute stare-down with the pantry, I settled on the classic: Hamburger Helper. (Cue @porwest’s lecture about sodium content and my inevitable eye roll.) For the kid who treats Hamburger Helper like it’s radioactive waste, I made dino nuggets. Because I was tired of watching her survive solely on Eggos and pure willpower. At least dino nuggets contain some protein… and, you know, the emotional support of tiny extinct reptiles. I went fancy with the Hamburger Helper—crunchy taco flavor, which is really just hamburger meat and Mexican rice with a pile of Fritos on top. I even classed it up with fajita blend cheese and a dollop of sour cream, because I’m nothing if not a culinary icon. So that was dinner at our place. What went down on your table tonight—gourmet feast or chaotic fridge roulette?

The concept here is awesome, but if it came from a box I have the same aversion to that as you do of my boxed macaroni and cheese. lol. So...we're even, don't you think? lol

@thislittlepennyearns lol. How would mine not have flavor? It's just less salty.

We had goulash, fresh corn, green salad, and son had homemade bread and butter with his. He thinks he can't eat goulash without bread and butter. Luckily, I could provide what he thought sounded good.

You cant eat any sort of stew or soup wihtout bread. Isnt thee veggies in goulash already. That seems like alittle veggie heavy.

@thislittlepennyearns Not in mine. I make it like one of my grandmothers did. Chopped tomatoes, onions, and celery. We love veggies here, especially in the summer when they are really fresh.
