Since I spent yesterday at the Will Rogers Museum, it’s only fitting to have my travel song pay tribute to the Cowboy Philosopher. So put that pin in the map in Claremore, Oklahoma as we continue my vacation musically (and Linda? NO!!!!).
The Ballad of Will Rogers - Chris LeDoux
If you go through Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, you’ll see a LOT of people claiming Abraham Lincoln. No such thing with Will Rogers. He was an Oklahoman. A “citizen of the world,” true, but Oklahoma was in his roots.
Great people deserve a song, and Chris LeDoux (from Mississippi, so no bragging) obliged. Now, if you know LeDoux’s name, it’s because of Garth Brooks. He mentioned LeDoux in “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” and they teamed up together for the song “Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy.” Brooks was a big fan of LeDoux, and most of LeDoux’s fame came from his famous cheerleader.
LeDoux had a lot in common with Will Rogers: multifaceted entertainer. LeDoux was the only person to ever compete at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo, then perform a concert at it! He was also a bronze sculptor.
LeDoux developed a liver ailment that required a transplant. Longtime fan Brooks offered to donate part of his, but it wasn’t compatible. Five years after that, cancer took over and took LeDoux’s life at the age of 56.
Two multi-talented cowboys meet in this song.

A big thank you to LeDoux. Will Rogers was quite the story teller. I have listened to him speak. I bet that museum was interesting.

@celticeagle — and different manufacturers. I’d never thought about it, but this car brand and that car brand are different, so why wouldn’t saddles be!

It was amazing. One of the things I learned is that there are many different varieties of saddles. “A saddle is a saddle”? NO, there are many types.

My dad was nuts for John Wayne movies. All his dogs were named after John Wayne characters.

@FourWalls I could stand to watch some of the action movies with him but not the Westerns and war movies.
