Unwanted pet solution.

Did you read about how Aalborg zoo in Denmark wants to feed its captive carnivores? It is advertising for members of the public to donate their unwanted pets!! They only accept healthy pets (rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs etc) which are then euthanised and fed to carnivores such as lynx, lions and tigers. Horses too are accepted, and anyone donating a horse actually gets a tax break of some sort. Again the horse must be healthy. The report doesn’t say if donors are able to watch their pets being eaten - how cool would that be?

@Fleura - Of course they do, it's the idea to bring YOUR PET that I cannot stand. Would you bring your dog or your cat? I could never do that.

But surely they must be killing some animals already to feed the lions, so why not these animals?

@Fleura - Some people should never have pets, of course when I read what people do to their own children I am surprised by nothing.

Do you wonder if they accept unwanted spouses, as long as they're healthy? Or unwanted children, too? Heck, the zoo could set traps for the unwanted tourists and could still keep the tourists' dollars in their economy. That all sounds the same to me.

@garymarsh6 I’d be surprised if they were swamped with donations, especially since they only want healthy specimens.

I saw this, and I didn’t read too far into the story. It was just too disturbing.

Well it would be a natural solution and save on the costs of disposal.

@fleura We have little problem “euthanising” millions of beasts to feed ourselves, only taking the healthy. So why not this? Of course the better solution is to close all zoos - despicable institutions.

@Fleura Our school had “pet” pythons, and it was with macabre delight that we gathered to watch live chickens and rabbits being dropped into their enclosure. The chickens and pythons often cohabited for days till a python decided he was hungry enough to be bothered and then he’d strike.

Animals must be killed all the time to feed the carnivores in zoos, why is it ok for some animals and not others?
