We hardly see any beggars these days In the good old days there was not a day that we did not see beggars on the streets and even visiting homes for alms. And they were not sent away empty handed I remember we had this feast - our Lady;s BIrthday on September 8. That day every Catholic house prepared vegetable dishes numbering as many as nine or more.. Just as soon as we ate this woman would come for food We would give the food but she would put everything together in one vessel. I wondered how that food would taste. Instead of beggars the number of pick pockets has increased Image credit:

In my country, it is illegal to beg. If you need help, you will need to inform the government and the government will look at how to help you enough to get your life back.

I noticed that there are no beggars in your country as well. While I did see some people loitering, they weren't begging for anything. Some were even selling various wares. Back in 2017, I saw an elderly woman in a wheelchair under an underpass selling tissues or something similar. She didn’t appear to be a beggar, but her circumstances made her look like one. During my recent visit, however, I didn’t encounter anyone like that anymore.

I am reading at @id_peace comment and it is the same here. The government gives them a shelter and they receive food.

@allknowing - They are free to accept the shelter or to live under a bridge, they are not obliged, but they can go there to have food and to take a shower if they like.

We don't see beggars in my city, or, if we do, the police will "suggest" they relocate into a big city where they can get help and there are shelters set up for them. Our city is too small to host (pay for and maintain) a shelter like that. There are a lot of laws against beggars and any of them, if needed, will be used to encourage people to move along to the big cities.

@allknowing Then they can get jobs and be free as long as they aren't begging for food or shelter. They could also go into the mountains and live their lives there however they wanted, catching game in season and sleep in the woods. They would only get bothered there if they started begging from the people who already lived there.

Yes. Pickpockets are on the rise in some areas. It’s a sign of how times and communities can change.

I'm not sure if it's a good sign, but unfortunately, there are still many beggars on the streets where I live. It seems like some local governments are trying to address the issue, but I still see a lot of them wandering around. Even though there's a decree against begging, it seems like law enforcement avoids taking action, possibly to avoid being seen in a negative light.
