And Reality Comes Forth

There was a time when everyone was tired of cable and then along came a company called Netflix, who eventually got into the streaming business, and it was cheap. Way cheaper than cable. So, people of course said, "That's it. I'm pulling the plug." And you could get virtually anything you wanted from Netflix...until you couldn't. And one by one more and more new streaming services cropped up. And then those new ones started negotiating special deals for this show and that show, and then they started making their own exclusive shows. And before you knew it, in order to watch anything you wanted to watch, you had to have 10 streaming services, and the cost of that was and is starting to look just like cable. And of course, if there's a movie actually worth watching? Well, that doesn't come with the regular service. You have to pay extra to watch it. Who owns many of these streaming services companies? The same exact people who owned the cable companies essentially. You didn't think you'd REALLY screw them over, did you? No matter how you swing it, they have you right by the balls. Let's face it. We're all suckers. And in the end what's going to happen? We're all just going to go back to cable just like we used to, because going to one place just makes sense.

Each streaming service has a movie or special program to entice viewers. I changed to DISH from Spectrum and am paying $100 less per month. I only have one streaming service.

@LindaOHio You might want to check out YouTube TV. You get all the local stations and a total of 139 channels for $85. You connect to it the same way you'd connect to any streaming service. We love it so far and I have everything we had when we had cable for much more a month.

We made the switch to YouTube TV and it's almost identical to cable. $85 a month. But we do have Prime, Hulu, and Netflix that we pay for as far as streaming goes. Prime is of course part of our Amazon package, so it's for other things as well.

@thislittlepennyearns lol. No worries. In CASE you missed it, what I was saying is that with exclusive content and certain shows negotiating deals with only one or two platforms, eventually you'll need multiple platforms to get what you want, and before you know it, the cost of all the multiple platforms will be equal to or greater than the former cost of cable. On top of that, the same entertainment companies that were part of cable are streaming, so instead of one bill, you now have 10 or 12 bills potentially, multiple logins and so on and so forth, more to manage... Eventually the cost of cable will not only be worth it again, but much easier to deal with. There was a time when we (the consumer) were winning. But they are quickly grabbing the ball from us and putting it right back in their court and they WILL win this in the end.

@porwest don't matter to me my own entertainment will see me through, In fact, I have so many videos that I could watch them and not get through a year, That was during my dumb period when I spent all that money buyting up videos so I would not ahve a boring moment, Time to watch again because it's entertaining I even have musicals,

Hubby has Netflix and that’s it. No more streaming services for us. I heard it went up in price.

So true! Streaming was supposed to be the cheaper, simpler option, but now it feels like we’re back where we started — just with more apps to juggle. Honestly, one-stop access like cable is starting to sound appealing again.

I don't have a problem . My youngest daughter subscribed to Netflix and there are 4 of us to watch it. If I couldn't finish watching a movie I could download it and watch later.

You don't have a problem now. I am talking about the future. lol. Eventually as more and more new services crop up and they are all vying for exclusive content, you will need more than just Netflix. That's almost true now, even.
