Where was I? Just about everywhere. Where am I? In bed.
Where am I going? To Lexington, for a day with my niece. But first, here’s a song about where I was on the trip. Sing along!
Nashville Cats - Lovin’ Spoonful
This was written as a salute to what is known as the “A Team.” That’s a group of session players (usually: Bob Moore on bass, Buddy Harman on drums, Floyd Cramer on piano, and Chet Atkins and/or Harold Bradley on guitar) who played on just about every RCA Victor country song in the 50s and 60s, and many rock songs recorded in Nashville as well.
The Lovin’ Spoonful were cool because they were the only rock band in history fronted by an autoharp player!
This song ended up being covered by Flatt and Scruggs and spoofed by Homer and Jethro. So, obviously, it was well-loved in Nashville.
Nashville Cats
Written by John Sebastian
Recorded by the Lovin’ Spoonful
From Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful, 1966
Been playin’ since they’s babies:

Not what you expect out of an autoharp!

@FourWalls Vince and the BIL play theirs on their knees. They still need to be able to see the keys on the bars.

I was wondering what he was holding in his hands! Wow, an autoharp! Not something you see very often.

Usually an instrument relegated to country and Appalachian music.

@FourWalls When I think of Appalachian music, I think of washboards and spoons. And banjoes. lol

Don't know these but know the Lovin' Spoonful. Reminds me of the Disney cartoon The Aristocats,

I’m sort of surprised. This was a top ten hit and international top 40 hit.

I knew this song even before I started listening to rock and roll! Great tune.

Bad news: the traffic is worse. If you didn’t know that was possible!
