Here's What I Have to Look Forward to

I listened to a video about aging last night on YouTube. It was about what to expect when we turn 80. I will be 74 in November so 80 isn't that far off. I will share a bit of it here for the older gals: * The immune system becomes fragile. No longer the protecter it once was. The white blood cells' protection breaks down. Illness symptoms change with age. We may not get a fever or such things that helped us to realize we were ailing. * By 30 we begin to lose muscle mass, about 3-5% per decade. By the age of 80 that may equal about 50% of total muscle mass. Being able to stabelize just stepping off a curb or getting up off the toilet becomes more difficult. We need to eat more protein, about 1.0 to 1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight daily. * We become invisible. You disappear in the eyes of doctors, hospitals, etc. They rely on assumptions and rob women of dignity and of a fair choice. Don't forget you have every right to change doctors at any time. * Your world shrinks. Gradually things change. This limits our life force. We need to keep a social aspect to our lives. Reach out. Or the spark dims. Fresh environments and staying active are important. * Keep the door open. Try new things. It's all up to us.

I am plummeting toward 80 at a rapid pace. I'm jealous of those older than I am that can walk around without a problem.

I think you'll be fine. You're as young as you feel. If you've taken care of yurself, you can slow down the aging process.

I think so too. Thank you. My mind feels young even if the body isn't.

@celticeagle And, that is helpful. While we can't stop natural degeneration, we can slow it down.

I am fortunate that I have a couple of good doctors who still think I am valuable

I certainly agree about the vanishing bit and becoming invisible. You need to be tough as you get older.

Yes, and if you weren't tough in younger years you are lost.

Thank you for sharing this. it’s both eye-opening and encouraging. Aging does bring challenges, but I love the reminder that staying active, social, and open to new things can keep the spark alive

Yes it is our life to do what we want with it. We should stay healthy as we get older.
