Ouch. Physical therapy time again. Oh, well. It certainly beats surgery and all the other things that could be going on. I’ll take it. While I take that, you get another song from the list of places I went on this vacation. So, with another “Linda? NO!!!” warning, here’s today’s song.
Amarillo - Emmylou Harris
Not my favorite song about Amarillo (that would be George Strait’s “Amarillo By Morning,” which is on my 100 favorites list), but this one is definitely more fun. No broken legs like the Strait song (“broke my leg in Santa Fe”), but a broken heart…caused by “a jukebox and a pinball machine.”
I realize this is horribly dated: “what’s a jukebox? And a pinball machine???”
(And yes, it used to cost a quarter for three plays on a jukebox, and some pinball machines were even that cheap.) Not to mention playing George Jones, Dolly Parton, or Porter Wagoner on the jukebox. But heck, this is a fun song…funny, too: a “black-eyed Cajun queen” is no match for the narrator, but she can’t beat a pinball obsession? She deserved to lose him.
Amarillo
Written by Rodney Crowell and Emmylou Harris

@FourWalls crazy that you remember the time frame. With Hurricane Erin off shore there have already been many water rescues in the past couple of days and it is only by NC I think. Dad didn't drown but the offshore hurricane certainly caused the rough waves that caused his accident.

Have you watched the documentary on Gram Parsons? I did, and I’m sorry I did. He wasn’t very nice.

@TheHorse — great songwriter, though. Guess that’s how we should keep it…just know that he was a great songwriter.

Oh, the usual. Painful for awhile, but it’s better the second time I do it than the first.
