Tower of London Remembers

Before I came down with a miserable summer cold, I took a trip to the Tower of London to see the poppy display to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. For the centenary of WWI, nearly 900,000 of these ceramic poppies were planted in the moat of the Tower. This time some 30,000 are planted inside the Tower and will remain until Remembrance Day, Nov 11. I did make a short video, which is a bit wobbly as my wrist hasn’t fully recovered after my last bike crash. I meant to grab my monopod, to steady the camera, but forgot. https://youtu.be/RC4wrX2vrKk

@Ronrybs I think we were there around the end of May. It was our US Memorial Day holiday.

The middle of summer is not the best time to visit, as I found out. I love wandering around it, especially the armoury and Henry's VIII's armour. This time I didn't bother going to the jewel house!

You're too critical. The video looks fine. What are the structures the poppies are on? Wire stands?

Thank you, most kind. It does look a little off to me, though! I think it is wire, but you can't get too close for a good look

@Ronrybs You're welcome. I only asked because at our last house, I strung 50 lbs test fishing line up across our front porch between posts and hung Halloween skeletons, ghosts and black cats on it... Everybody loved the way it looked. It looked like they were all floating in air until you reached out and touched one of them or the sunlight sparkled off the fishing line.

That sounds like a very enjoyable visit. I hope your wrist gets back to normal soon.

Didn't bump into any of the ghostly spirits that live in the tower? Are the famous ravens still there?

The ravens are well looked after, but they know where to go to keep away from crowds! Far too many people there for any ghost to feel comfortable

I can't imagine starting out to plant so many tulip bulbs. Thanks for the video. It looked great to me.

@Ronrybs I can't plant a punnet of seedlings without my back screaming at me. I wouldn't be volunteering for this I'm afraid.

For the centenary of WWI they had volunteers to help plant the nearly 900,000 poppie. I am sure it took a fair bit of time to plant this batch.

I read so much about the Tower of London in history books and novels about the past Kings and Queens . Has the Tower been redone in any way?

It has been worked on and bits rebuilt at various times, but the basic fortress is the same, although it has a pub in it now!
